FAQ’s

What is the bread of an ice cream sandwich?

While typically the bread of an ice cream sandwich is either thin biscuits, cookies, or wafers, there’s no hard and fast rule. You can also use waffles, donuts, slices of bread, or hot cross buns for a delicious alternative, so play around with a few ideas to find what styles and flavours work for you (of course, we’re partial to hot cross buns in ours!).

Why do ice cream sandwiches get soggy?

To keep the ‘sandwich’ part of your ice cream sandwich going soggy, try using a chewy cookie or biscuit instead of a crispy cookie. By using a chewy cookie, the ice cream that soaks into it creates more chewiness, rather than making it a soggy mess. Crunchy biscuits just won’t stand up to the task. If you’re using bread as the outer layer, make sure to serve the ice cream sandwiches immediately for the best texture.

What country invented the ice cream sandwich?

Ice cream sandwiches were invented in New York at the beginning of the 20th century, made by sandwiching vanilla ice cream between two crackers. They’ve since become popular all over the world, with variations popping up in places as far-flung as Italy, Thailand, Ireland, and Australia.
