Throughout our 45-year (and counting!) business journey, we’ve had a long and proud history of employing local people in communities around Australia. We are also proud to have a female co-founder and to have been led by female CEOs throughout our history.
As in previous years, Bakers Delight’s overall gender pay gap is strongly influenced by the large number of part-time or casual retail service-based roles that are most commonly a first job for teenagers or young adults in our company-owned bakeries. Unlike the roles in our Corporate Office, these positions generally involve fewer working hours, and while they are strictly paid in accordance with the General Retail Industry Award 2020, they are commonly at the lower end of the pay scale compared to other positions within the business. The majority of these positions are filled by females.
We are proud to be known as a place where young female staff feel safe and encouraged to grow and develop, so we have an important role to play in driving the evolution of these traditionally female-focussed bakery roles. We are also proud that half of our executive team are women, and in all quartiles of the WGEA gender composition banding, Bakers Delight Holdings employs many more women than its comparison group. We believe this reflects Bakers Delight’s commitment to providing a workplace that supports women throughout the development of their careers.
In the meantime, we will continue exploring opportunities to help close the gender pay gap. In particular, in FY2026 we will be focussing on initiatives to attract more women into bakery production roles. Currently around one third of our bakers are women and we’d like to see that get to half.
