FAQs

Typically, raspberry lemonade is made of raspberries, lemon and sugar. Then ingredients like soda water and ice are added to serve. However, some recipes may have slight variations with some adding sweeteners like honey or simple syrup.

Yes, there is a difference between lemonade and raspberry lemonade - mainly in their ingredients. Lemonade is typically made from three ingredients - lemon juice, water and a sweetener. Raspberry lemonade, on the other hand, usually has the addition of raspberries to create a syrup. This also makes them taste quite different.  Another obvious difference is in their appearance. Traditional lemonade is usually a pale yellow, while raspberry lemonade has a bright pink hue.

According to the New York Times, the first raspberry lemonade was called pink lemonade and was made by Henry E. Allott. From Chicago, Henry ran away to join the circus as a teenager. The story goes that he accidentally dropped red cinnamon lollies into a jug of regular lemonade, turning it pink. And voila, pink lemonade was born.  As for raspberry lemonade itself, there’s no real answer to where it came from. It’s likely that it was invented as manufacturers began to experiment with different lemonade flavours.
