FAQs

An authentic Mexican salsa can vary depending on the region and ingredients, but a recipe will typically be made of chopped tomatoes, hot peppers, with other ingredients like jalapenos, onion, garlic, lime juice, salt and coriander. Some authentic recipes can also include garlic, cumin or green onions.  It’s also worth noting that there are different types of salsa, ranging from chunky pico de gallo to smoother salsas that are made with blended ingredients.

The answer to this is both! The word ‘salsa’ is actually Spanish, meaning any kind of sauce. However, if we’re talking about the food salsa, Mexican cuisine is often what comes to mind.

Salsa has many variations, such as pico de gallo, salsa roja, salsa verde, and salsa macha, which use ingredients such as tomato, onion, chillies, garlic, tomatillos, olive oil, nuts, and seeds. Each salsa recipe can vary depending on the region, ingredients available and also personal preferences.
