FAQs

Croissants are versatile, which means you can put loads of different kinds of fillings in them. For the ultimate savoury fillings, try cheese, bacon, ham, turkey, vegemite, or peanut butter. If you have a sweet tooth, or want your croissant to be more of a dessert, try your favourite flavour of jam, melted chocolate sauce, berries, bananas or strawberries.

A plain croissant is considered to be savoury as the saltiness of the butter is the main flavour. That said, there is a sweetness to a croissant due to the sugar used to make it, so it kind of lies in between sweet and savoury. This is one of the reasons why croissants are so versatile, making them a great choice for breakfast or lunch.

The secret to a good croissant is the butteriness of the pastry, as well as its flakiness. When you break it apart it should be soft on the inside, so it melts in your mouth. Baking croissants is not for the faint of heart, as this much-loved pastry is tricky to get right!
