Local bakers’ generosity to brighten the day of seriously ill children

Local bakers’ generosity to brighten the day of seriously ill children
A charitable Western Australian baker has brought smiles to the faces of many seriously ill children and their families. On Friday, 5 July, the smell of freshly baked scones filled the air at the Starlight Express Room of Perth Children’s Hospital as Captain Starlight delivered the freshly baked treats across the hospital. With the charity close to his heart, Bakers Delight Hamilton Hill Franchisee, Chin Leong Yong decided he wanted to donate the scones to the Starlight Children’s Foundation so they could be enjoyed by patients and their families, as well as the hardworking staff.
“The Starlight Children’s Foundation brings so much joy to seriously ill children and we wanted to do the same. It’s nice to know what takes me just three hours to bake has made so many children and their families smile throughout the day,” said Chin.
Chin’s generosity has also inspired other businesses to donate to the cause. Australian flour supplier Manildra donated six bags of scone mixture, Coca-Cola Amatil supplied two boxes of fruit juice and Kailis Bros donated jam and whipped cream to go with the delightful scones. Bakers Delight also donated $1,000 worth of Dough Dollars to go to patients and their families, to be redeemed at any Bakers Delight store across WA. As well as donating 1,000 scones, Chin is in the middle of running a six-week long scone drive, whereby $2 from every 4-pack of scones sold between 4 July and 14 August will go directly to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Bakers Delight Joint CEO David Christie is proud to work with selfless Franchisees like Chin. “Chin has always been a dedicated Franchisee who is constantly supporting local charities. Like many other Bakers Delight Franchisees, Chin is an active member of his local community and actively seeks opportunities to give back wherever and whenever he can,” said David. Over his 18 years working with Bakers Delight, Chin together with his wife Soo have worked tirelessly to give back to their community, most recently raising the highest amount of funds out of all WA bakeries for Breast Cancer Network Australia.
