Local Superheroes to Raise Funds for Seriously Ill Children

Local Superheroes to Raise Funds for Seriously Ill Children
Bakers and sales staff from eight Bakers Delight bakeries across New South Wales and Queensland transformed into superheroes for Bear Cottage Superhero Week, an initiative to raise funds for terminally ill children. Bakers Delight employee, Krystell has worked at the Settlement City bakery for the past four years and over the last three, she has utilised Bakers Delight’s strong connection with the local community to help raise vital funds for the very special charity. Bear Cottage is located on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in Manly and provides support, respite and end of life care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Superhero Week aims to raise awareness and funds for Bear Cottage and has a special place in Kystell’s heart. Krystell’s stepdaughter Natesha (Tesha) spent her last five weeks in the care of Bear Cottage staff, after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as SNUC (Sino-Nasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma). Tesha and her family received a tremendous amount of love, support and overwhelming kindness from the staff at Bear Cottage, which Krystell is extremely grateful for. “The fantastic care Tesha and our family received during the most difficult time of our lives meant so much to us,” Krystell said.
“Toward the end of her battle, Tesha requested we continue to raise funds for Bear Cottage so they remain able to provide the same level of care to other children and their families, so that is exactly what we are doing!”
An initiative of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Bear Cottage was established by donated funds and continues to rely on support from the community. For the past three years, Krystell has worked with teams at Bakers Delight Settlement City and Bakers Delight Port Central to support Superhero Week, donating Fun Bun sales from the week to the cause. However, this year Krystell didn’t stop there. Krystell has recruited an additional six bakeries across New South Wales and Queensland to participate. Thank you to the following bakeries for getting behind Superhero week:
