Use a slice of stale bread to soak up the oil or fat left on the baking dish from dinner – bread and grease go in the bin and nothing bad goes into the waterways!
When your brown sugar becomes too hard, simply put a slice of bread in with it. The bread will absorb all the moisture and the brown sugar will return to its original softness.

Whether it’s a cup, plate or the vase that’s been in the family for generations, we all hate breaking glass! Luckily, there’s a simple trick for picking up the little shards of glass to prevent any further heartache. After sweeping up the larger pieces, take a piece of bread and press it over the tiny shards. The bread will pick up the pieces and you can just throw it out when you’re done. Remember to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands when you do this.
If you have beautiful oil paintings in your home, you’re probably afraid to clean them when they’re dusty. Luckily, there’s an easy way to clean the artwork without ruining them. First, take a soft bristle brush and gently wipe off the dust on the painting. Then, take a slice of bread with crusts removed and carefully pat it on top of the painting. Make sure the paint layers are dry and intact so you don’t remove any coloring. Once that piece of bread is soiled, break off another and continue the process.
A splinter can be painful, and even more painful to remove! Rather than digging into your skin to force out that pesky splinter, try removing it using warm milk and bread.
Start by heating the milk until it’s warm but still cool enough to be applied to the skin. Pour the milk into a heat-proof bowl, add a few pieces of bread and let them sit for a few minutes. Apply the moistened bread pieces to the splinter area and put it under a band-aid or piece of gauze. Leave the pieces on your skin for as long as possible and then remove them. Hopefully the splinter is drawn out by the warm milk and bread mixture!
